My Experiences of Being an LO

My Experiences of Being an LO
Being an LO (liaison officer) of 26th Sea Games become a wonderful thing to me. I was really happy I could participate in this great event. There’re many experiences when I became an LO. By becoming an LO, I could directly met people from another country and I learned many things from that.
In sea games, I became LO for Shooting Range. At the first time, I became LO for committee. They were from PERBAKIN (Shooting Community) Jakarta. But, there was new announcement said there were nothing LO for committee because they were still from Indonesia and they were the committee, they should handle us. So, I was an LO for Laos. They were 5 people from LAOS. There were 3 men and 2 women. I just remembered the women, they were Khongkam and Khamla. They were really kind person. But, they couldn’t speak English. So, when we want to communicate with them, we use gesture. When we wanted to asked them to eat, we practiced like we eat something then they understood what we meant. It was hard for me to do gesture all the time. I even try as I could to make them understood with what I meant but sometimes they still didn’t understand. For example, I ever asked what perfume that she used because I like her smell, I just want to know. Then I showed my perfumed intended to make her to show hers, but she tried to smell mine. She thought I wanted to show only, but I said “This is mine (point at me), where’s yours (point at her)”, she still didn’t get what I meant. But, one of them can speak English a little, not much. So mostly I spoke with her.

Naughty Acnes

I miss to see my face like when I was before graduated from Senior High School. I miss my face at my kindergarten, elementary school, junior high school, and senior high school. I miss it. I want to see it again. I want to feel it. I need it. That’s because I hate to see my face at this time. The only reason is I hate the acnes on my face!!! I do really really really really really really really really and very very very very very very very very hate this!!!!!!!

I don’t really know exactly why it can be in my face. As I remembered, it started when I graduated from Senior High School. Started from like only three or four little acnes that really bothered me. I hate when I see them, so there’s many thing that I’ve tried to make it away from my beautiful face. Starts from something nature like aloe vera (spread the mucus on my face), sticky rice (pound and spread to my face), honey, carrot, star fruit, etc. until something like in advertisement, such as *lay, P*nds, p*nds flawless flight, etc. I think what I’ve tried to hide it not really make it hide, instead they were became more. Because what I had done has no result, I thought I had to go to doctor to check it.

The Role of Literature in ELT

Literature generally comes to identify a collection of texts. Most generally, a literature is equated with a collection of stories, poems, and plays that revolve around a particular topic. Literature has been generally used in English Language Teaching (ELT) classroom for the development of knowledge about language. In ELT, using literature has four advantages, to facilitate intelligence and sensibility training, to stimulate students’ creative and literary imagination, to improve students’ general cultural awareness, and to enhance the psycholinguistic aspect of language learning.
First advantage of literature in ELT is to facilitate intelligence and sensibility training. Through literature, students give the possibility to speak about science, even if they don’t work in this domain, or they can express their opinion about a political aspect, just because they have read something connected to that. Another opinion, Parkinson and Thomas (2000: 9-11)

Appreciation Towards The Story “God Sees the Truth, But Waits” by Leo Tolstoy

In my view, this story is really amazing. Sad story actually. But it is great. You should read it. I also put the appreciation at the bottom. Enjoy...

Story:
In the town of Vladimir lived a young merchant named Ivan Dmitrich Aksionov. He had two shops and a house of his own.

Aksionov was a handsome, fair-haired, curly-headed fellow, full of fun, and very fond of singing. When quite a young man he had been given to drink, and was riotous when he had had too much; but after he married he gave up drinking, except now and then.

One summer Aksionov was going to the Nizhny Fair, and as he bade good-bye to his family, his wife said to him, "Ivan Dmitrich, do not start to-day; I have had a bad dream about you."

Aksionov laughed, and said, "You are afraid that when I get to the fair I shall go on a spree."
